Anastasiia Kucherenko in the House!
Layerform.com recently had chance to spend a few minutes talking with Illustrator Anastasiia Kucherenko. Anastasiia is a self taught Illustrator from the Ukraine and has been published on Envato’s network for her work. She is a creative person through and through, and her style of Illustration is extremely diverse for such a young artist.
How did you get started as an illustrator?
I have actually enjoyed drawing since my earliest memories. However this being said, i don’t consider myself a professional illustrator as i have never received any formal education.
What/Who is your biggest inspiration?
My grandpa is my biggest inspiration. Having lost his eyesight in an accident at a quite young age, he continued being a visual artist and creating amazing pieces of work. I admire him for what he is doing and wish everyone to have this much passion for the arts!
What is your favourite style of Illustration?
I love many illustration media and styles. But I guess my favourite ones are modern vector arts, for images are very clean and neat, and lines are smooth. I do like clear images and plain calm colours.
How hard is it to make a living from Illustration? And do you have any advice regarding popular Microstock websites?
Oh, I started microstocking about 7 years ago, and when I understood I could combine my hobby with making money, I started analysing the market needs and drawing more commercial vector images. Regarding advice on Microstock websites, I used to post many on my blog such as my article on how to sell microstock.
But in general, I would suggest to draw images in very large quantities. This would improve your skills, and will increase your portfolio, which will definitely result in better sales:)
Where do you see your career in 10 years time?
I have just graduated from an MA Communication Design course, and would like to further my career as a designer. Knowing illustration helps very much, but I still have a lot to master. And I hope in 10 years, I will be a successful designer:)
Whats the best advice you can give to aspiring illustrators?
My best advice is to love what you are doing, to never give up, and you will for sure see some results very soon!
Apart from illustration, what are your other hobbies & interests?
I like many things really. I enjoy sports, and my newest passion is rowing that I learnt during the last year while studying in England. I also love languages. My first degree was Mandarin Chinese, so I still continue practicing it with my Chinese friends in London. Travelling is my other passion. I wish I had more money to see more places now:)
How do you relax after a hard days work?
Meeting up with my friends and going somewhere together is very much relaxing. It can either be traveling together, or just spending some time together in the city.
That’s a wrap, Folks!
Anastasiia’s work can be found on all the major portfolio sites, so be sure to check out her work and buy some of her prints!
